If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9

There isn’t a promise in the Bible that says once you come to Christ you will be perfect. Many times I wish that were true, but there is a promise in the Bible that says when we mess up we can ask God for forgiveness and He will do just that. God forgives when we confess our sins. If God knows my heart, why do I have to confess my sins? When we confess our sins we agree with God that what we done was sin and that we are willing to turn from it. Also, if we confess our sins we make sure that we’re not concealing our sins from Him, and from ourselves. Finally, in confessing our sins we recognize our tendency to sin and how we must rely on His power to overcome it.

When I come to God with an open heart and share with Him the sin that I committed, he is faithful and just and will forgive me of my sins. Once I confess, immediately I’m forgiven by God. He is faithful, which means that I can believe it, trust, and know that God has forgiven me of that which I’ve confessed. He’s just, righteous, and fair, so I can take it to the bank and cash it, knowing in my heart that I’m forgiven by God. We can ask people to forgive us, but it can take years for them to forgive and still some never forgive. But, praise be to God that it only takes one time to ask God’s forgiveness for it to be granted.

Many times we feel so guilty that we ask God over and over to forgive us of the same sin. This shouldn’t be when we realize that we’re forgiven by God when we come to Him the first time and confess. When we confess the same past sins over and over, we’re actually showing that we haven’t forgiven ourselves yet and all that does is hold us back from moving forward in God’s grace. Confessing our sins allow us to enjoy maximum fellowship and joy with God.

God not only forgives us of our sins, but He purifies us from all unrighteousness. We’re not forgiven and left dirty; God cleans us from the filth that led us to confess in the first place. This means that I have a clear slate, I’m renewed, fresh, and so clean. When true confession is made, it involves a commitment not to continue in sin. When God cleanse me, I shouldn’t want to go get dirty again.

I thank God for His gift of forgiveness. When Jesus died upon the cross, he died for my past, present, and future sins. This is why I don’t have to worry about if God will reject me if my slate isn’t perfectly clean. Of course we should continue to confess our sins, but if I were to die with unconfessed sins my salvation is secure. But as long as I live and recognize when I mess up, I need to always come to God and confess.

Be Bless

Brotherern, you are so right. I thank and give God glory for forgiving me of my sins.

We can not beat ourselves up over what God has released us from. If we TRULY confess our sin and ask to be forgiven, God WILL forgive us.

However, this dosen't mean do the same sin over and over then ask to be forgiven. God is graceful and loving, BUT he will NOT except repeated sin without repentance.....TRUE REPENTANCE.
